An initiative of Farmworker Justice to promote health and reduce health disparities in Rural Latino communities

Promoting Healthy Communities

Poder Sano is a new initiative by Farmworker Justice to help mobilize rural Latino communities around the prevention of HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, and tuberculosis. Through this project, Farmworker Justice will provide free capacity-building assistance and community mobilization tools to strengthen community-based organizations' HIV prevention programs, improve monitoring and evaluation practices, and create partnerships for program support.

Poder Sano has three major components:    

Coalition Building for Rural HIV Prevention

We are building a coalition of community based organizations, policy makers, faith communities, health departments and capacity building assistance providers to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS in rural Latino communities.  

Community Mobilization Toolkits

We are designing, developing and distributing a promotores de salud community mobilization toolkit to mobilize underserved Latino communities around HIV prevention. All materials will be free of charge and available online  

Capacity Building Assistance

We provide culturally competent and linguistically appropriate capacity building assistance on community mobilization and promotores de salud strategies and approaches for high-risk rural Latino communities. We will provide learning opportunities in the form of regular webcasts and trainings.

As community partners of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Farmworker Justice has provided rural service providers with high quality trainings and individualized assistance on HIV prevention programs for over ten years. We have implemented successful promotores de salud initiatives with community-based partners across the U.S. FJ will build on these successes to target an especially high-risk community, Latinos in rural settings, with community-based and -focused strategies to mobilize underserved communities in the fight against HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, and tuberculosis.

Sobre Poder Sano

Farmworker Justice es una organización nacional sin fines de lucro que se dedica a mejorar las condiciones de vida y trabajo para trabajadores agrícolas migrantes y de temporada en los estados unidos.

PoderSano.org es una iniciativa nacional nueva de Farmworker Justice que movilizará comunidades latinas en zonas rurales para prevenir el VIH/SIDA, infecciones de transmisión sexual, y tuberculosis. Farmworker Justice prestará asistencia técnica y herramientas de movilización comunitaria gratis a organizaciones de base para aumentar sus capacidades de proveer programas de prevención del VIH/SIDA, mejorar sus prácticas de evaluación y monitoreo, y establecer relaciones con otras instituciones en apoyo de sus programas.
